Did anyone go to the summer NAMM and see that magnetis bass drum pedal? It uses 2 magnets to repel against each other so there is no need for springs. The pedal was very smooth to play and the pedal will last 10 times longer with magnets because polarity never decreases. The address of the website is http://www.drumnetics.com
Check it out it is a really great idea.

Hmm, that's interesting and a very good idea. Someone was thinking on that one. I'd certainly give one of those a try.

It sounds like a very good idea, it should offer very smooth action.
It's just, I'm wondering how big the force is between the two magnets. If it's too big, it would cost a lot of effort to put the plate down, if it's too weak, the pedal won't jump back. Maybe you can adjust the type/strength of the magnets?
Also, wouldn't it be impossible to let the beater lean to the bass drum head?
I would like to try them out, but the price is a bit euhm... (329$)
The weight of the pedal is probably pretty high.

It looks as if it is made out of aluminium, so it's probably lighter than you think. Nonetheless, it's an interesting idea.

I have a pair of them. They're great pedals. Both magnets are adjustable to you can adjust the repulsion (tension) so you don't have to stomp them. They are very smooth and easy to adjust.
