Ok, so my absolute dream kit is a Sonor Delite with:
22" kick x2
10" tom
12" tom
14" tom
16" floor tom
The downside is it will cost around $6,000.
Does anyone know of another quality kit with the same hardware for maybe 1/2 as much? |

the delite is a sweet rig all the way around.
i really like the suspension (total acoustic resonance) system.
if you find something comparable in the $3k range, be sure to share the info. |

Quality wise, it's hard to match the delite. The birdseye azure is stunning indeed.
Sound wise? Pearl mmx and mapex saturn are pretty close. But don't give up--buy what you REALLY want.
The delite will not cost $6K.
1) Ebay is a good place tolook
2) Sonor dealers often have floor model specials. I read where a guy got a 5-pc kit for $2K.
3) Check with indoor storm. The prices they show are retail, and they e-mail you the discounted price.
4) Check with the guys over at www.sonormuseum.com. Somebeody will hook you up. They love Sonor uber alles.
Here is the benefit of experiance: The mapex saturn is a nice kit. But it doesn't have the same asthetic as the Sonor delite. Different animal. You could get a saturn, and be very happy with it, the performance and quality are outstanding--but it's not the same. You spend over $2K on a Saturn when you really wanted a sonor that's just a little more and you will kick yourself repeatedly.
Been there, done that. Satisfy the soul--play what you really want. |

YES. I just got a Mapex Saturn (my floor toms have the legs, which I prefer). The drums are of superb quality and sound great. I got a 7-piece black cherry sparkle for $1900: 14" snare, 22" bass, and 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16" toms. It's without a doubt one of the best deals in the drum industry. You will not regret getting a Saturn. It came with two convertible boom stands with 360 degree tilters, a very smooth and heavy duty hi hat stand with swiveling legs, and an equally smooth, heavy duty bass drum pedal. Good stuff. Also, the tom holder is very nice and easy to use. |

Get the Sonor...no drum has equal quality. And $6000?? That is WAY high. You can get an SQ2 heavy for that much. _________________ Sonor Signature Bubinga |
