Yes, that's a killer kit for the money!
I have been fiddling with a Catalina club recently. I could not believe the fat, warm sound out of the box.
That kit, is even better. Nice finish to boot. |

I don't think a 6-piece will be a problem. Some people say starting with fewer, but I can't think of any reason off the top of my head other than it might encourage creativity to play with a 4-piece. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

A shell pack includes just the drums and often times heads. A kit has hardware (cymbal stands, snare stand, etc) and also a shell pack. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

i recon thats a killer kit. i wish i had something like that
and as far as Cymbals go, you cant really play drums without them...well im sure some could but as it comes witht he hardware all you need to do is buy a cymbal pack. |

You being new to the world of percussion as you look around at kits you will see “Shell Packs” & “Complete Kits” only they are not complete as you have learned the cymbals are extra. The kit you have selected has received excellent reviews and are much better than many kits in their price range even with a hardware pack added.
I play a 6 piece Gretsch Catalina Birch kit and they are a professional kit at an intermediate level price. Gretsch has a great reputation for their import drums and are better than the price would reflect.
The cymbal issue is something else all together. Top end cymbals will cost as much as the kit but there are good alternatives for less money. One brand to price is the Wuhan “S’ series cymbals. Likely the best for the money. I have several vintage Zildjians that are now with my practice kit in favor of my Wuhans.
Good luck with you new Gretsch kit if you do decide to buy them. They won’t disappoint you. _________________ Now playing Slingerland, Gretsch, & Sonor Drums

| yes this is an unbelievable kit, but if you are just starting a six piece may be too much. I would go with five piece max. you don't really need a lot of toms when just starting out. the extra toms are for added pizzaz. I don't know what your ability is right now, but most starters wouldn't sound any better with the extra tom. Get comfortable with a four or five piece first, and then add what you like. I would say the same thing for cymbals too, i would go with a pair of hats ride and one crash. |

| I may have to disagree with Drummerboy. If you think that kit is the one, get it. I see that your just starting off, drummerboy does have a good point with getting comfortable with a basic kit. What i would suggest is start with your basics, practice your rudaments on your snare. As you get good at rudaments expand them around your set. Well mainly you have to start with the boring things, It will be pretty boring but it is all part of being a better drummer. I would work on rock beats. Using those add fills using you're rudaments you previously learned and put them on the toms. sorry that i was'nt really talking about you're kit. |

i actually just got that kit less than a week ago. it is a GREAT kit for the money and the finish is top notch. i recomend getting it in cherry red. the kit itself only comes with those 6 pieces though. no hardware except the tom mounts and floor tom legs. you would need to buy cymbals, a hihat pedal and bass drum pedal. im just warning it may be a pain in the *Horse's Patoot* assembling the kit out of the box, since you are new to drums. tuning can be a pain for me but ive only been playing for 9 months.
as far as whether or not that kit is good for someone starting out.....id say hell yea. i think starting out on a great kit like that is good. maybe you not need all the toms at first but you may need it later on. and personally having a great sounding kit encourages me to play more and better. my previous kit as a 15 yr old pearl export with the crappiest sounding bass drum ever. it annoyed me alot. so having a great sound will help your playing. id say get it. but just to let you know, the stock drum heads suck, i immediately bought an evans snare head when i got it. the stock snare head is TERRIBLE. |
