This being the Mapex section of the boards, I thought I'd show off my new drums Smile Man can these things project.

I simply love the finish on these things.

I posted somemore pictures in the actual "post your pictures" thread in the general drum discussion area of the forums if anyone wants somemore purty Pro M shots.

I'm using the Black Panther snare instead of the Pro M snare right now since I don't have two stands. I'll have to play around on both of them and see which one I like more and which one I'll use as my main and the other as an aux snare.

I actually asked this question in the Christmas l00t thread but I don't think anyone is reading it anymore. My bass drums booms like a mofo'. It's pretty cool but I'd like it to have a little more punch instead of boom. Would muffling help or does anyone have any tuning tips?

I'm still learning how to tune. I tuned to a general good tone with the batter heads. Then I added the other heads and tightened them but didn't tune then up, just kind of got them on there with a nice lower tone. Then I went back to the batter head and made sure they still sounded good. I did the same thing with the snare but I wasn't sure about the "snare" part, if that's what it's called.. the metal on the bottom. I tightened it pretty tight. My snare rattles alot from the vibration from hitting my toms and so I'm wondering if my tuning has any effect on it.

So from what i know, your new to acoustic drums, coming from the electric world? nice step up, i like acoustic better.

anyways, those drums look SICK. Im sure they sound just as good as they look.

as far as the bass question, if you have absolutley no muffling in there at all, then yes, the bass drum will be very BOOMy. However, unless your going for that death metal kick drum sound, dont over-do the muffling. Simply one pillow will do the job. Try that first, and see if it solves your problem

anyways, have fun with the new kit

@Sketchy:

Thanks for the advice. I'll try muffling the drums a bit, or even just wait until I put new heads on the bass drum and put on some muffled heads and go from there (see if that bit of muffling from them is enough to satisfy me).

As for acoustic versus electronic. I originally got the electronic because I was worried about space and noise. I decided "*Golly Gee* it" and got my acoustic but I'm still glad that I have the electronic for whenever I feel like late night jams.

As for it being SICK, thanks Smile I thought it looked so too.

@nickg:

I saw the pictures of yours in your thread. Pretty nice looking Smile I'm actually a metalhead (for the most part) and so is my wife and she is the one who picked out the kit and she didn't want to get me a light colored kit like that. I kind of like that pearl look though that yours has though Smile With it being a floor instead of a rack, I bet your floor tom is even bigger sounding than mine.

well, for muffling the toms, i dont recomend stuffing a pillow in there (but im sure you knew that?)

what i think works best are moongels, and if you dont wanna spend $7 on just 4 of them, and want to spend $7 on 20-24 instead (if you dont mind them being clear, instead of blue), then do the homemade moongel thing i posted in the "Dirt Cheap Drummers" thing. It works great, and now i have a lifetime supply of moongels

and yeah, if i had the money, i would want an electric kit for the fun of it. You never have to tune, you can select different sounds, and its just fun to mess around on

Yeah, I wasn't going to put a pillow in them, lol Smile I just gotta pick some good heads though. I've read alot that EC2s are good? THere is a big ol' heads thread here... I'll probably just read through that. I was moreso just worried about the bass drum for now because it's just so extremely boomy.

I saw your thing in the Dirt Cheap Drummers thread for the moon gels.. good idea.

Congrats on the kit. It looks great. As far as the bass drum. I like the Aquarian Super kick 2 for the batter and the Aquarian small hole regulator for the reso. Awesome punch! I like the feel of it for double bass better than the Evans emad. Metal heads huh? My bf and I are metal heads too. Twisted Evil

\../ Twisted Evil \../... Pro m's rock, but i don't like that color Razz, anyway it looks supreme..
For the toms i reccomend e-rings, they work soo great.. but if u don't like them, use kool aid's cheap moongels idea (plz gimme the adress of that post i never read it Sad) And i don't think floor toms have a bigger sound that hanging toms, i think it's kinda an equal thing.

Thanks for the comments Smile

@DWK: Thanks for the head suggestions. Yeah, I'm a metalhead. I'm not one of those people who listen just to one style and say everything else sucks btu I just find that most of the music that I listen to is metal.

@VanEbony: I kind of like the green because it's not something you see on like everyone's drum kit. I have no problem with say black or red... but 90% of the drums you see are black and red. I like the idea of blue too, even though it's pretty common too, but there isn't a good blue finish for the Pro-Ms. Well, there is the icy blue but it's not something that appeared to be my cup of tea. I was a bit more liberal with my colors but I was actually leaving most of the choice up to my wife and she didn't like any of the brighter colored finishes.

lol, you're entitled to your opinion. If you don't like the green, that's okay. It's my kit and I like the green Smile

Great looking kit, kuniggety. Nice buy. What do you think of the Black Panther? I think they're pretty impressive, and to get one free with those kits is a fantastic deal.
