a nice quad fill that mike portnoy does is


RLKKRLRLKKRLKKRLRL...when you get this pattern up to speed people go Shocked Shocked and it's kind of cool because it's very a simplistic linear pattern but people(mostly non drummers) are astonished by the sound of it haha

I bet he has been in marching band at some point, he had lots hertas in there as well as a few other typical tenor things.
