Hi all,
I am curious about the various kinds of stage customs out there. Can somebody please break down the differences and advantages of each model?
I just bought a Stage Custom that is made in Indonesia and comes with a steel snare. I checked some websites and noticed that most of these models come with a wooden snare. Also, I was hoping that any of you could tell me what my particular model is. I purchased the basic five piece, with dark blue finish; second hand for about USD390. It is still in good condition and I was wondering if it was a good deal. Thanks. |

It sounds like to me you have the more basic line of SCs...Steel snare, and a "non fancy" finish. It's still a very good kit, with the air seal shells and the YESS (Yamaha Enhanced Suspension System) tom mounts, as well as their awesome hardware.
There is also the Stage Custom Advantage, which has more elaborate gloss Birch finishes, as well as the free floating floor tom setup. (Floor tom(s) are suspended from a cymbal stand, as opposed to having 3 "legs")
Finally, there's the Stage Custom Nouveaus that come with (matte) Oak finishes as well as the "quick release" tuning lugs that mimic the Yamaha Absolute/Absolute Nouveau high end kits (although the SC lugs are made of plastic as opposed to metal).
I have the SC Nouveaus in matte black finish that I picked up for $ 800 CAD, so I think you got a decent deal on your kit. Also, I am not happy at all with the wooden snare supplied with the kit-I much prefer my (1970's) steel Recording Custom by far, so you aren't missing out at all... |

| My kit is labelled up as a Stage Custom Advantage Nouveaux. It also has a black... to dark green faded finish (about 2 inches from the bottom of the drum shell), its not a matt finish though. |

Thumper had it just about right, just a couple of errors.
The stage custom advantage has a hanging floor tom as he said if its a fusion sized set, but if its a standard sized set the floor tom still has 3 legs.
Then the stage custom noveau has the polymer noveau lugs as mentioned but it has all the same finishes as the stage custom advantage plus some matte finishes, not just matte finishes. _________________ The Silvertones |

Circa 1997, I bought one of the original Stage Custom kits.
*Glossy chestnut brown finish
*Pre-YESS rack mounted toms
*10, 12, 14, 20 c600onfig: Kit was originally purchased with 14x14 rack tom, but I exchanged it for a floor tom.
$600.00
After playing/owning that kit, I found it amazing that certain kits could actually carry a price tag ten times the size of this "starter kit". I mean--sure, there are some clear advantages of having a maple "professional kit", but *Holy Censor, Batman*!!! |
