Right now i got a Sonor Force 3005 kit. I like the kit but not as much as the yamaha stage custom. I stupidly allowed myself to get talked into buying the kit after originally going in for a yamaha. Any suggestions whether its worth trading in my kit for a stage custom? The kit is in mint condition and its about a year old. Any idea what my kit would be worth?

You're insane. End of story.

You're going to trade in all-maple to downgrade to Philippine mahogany. The only thing "stupid" about being talked into the 3005 over the Stage Custom is that you want Stage Custom over the 3005.

Please explain your reasoning!! What's the matter with the 3005 that you hate so much, and why you want the Stage Custom specifically?

I didnt realize that the stage customs were alot worse. I like the yamaha sets cause they can be expanded but i cant find extra toms and such to buy for my set. Also i know its not a big deal but im not too big on the color and i really liked the matte black finish on the yamaha. Is there any other yamaha kits that i should look at or is sonor the way to go?

They're probably not that much worse, i was being a bit dramatic. I've never actually sat down and played a Stage Custom, but you would definitely be taking a drop in wood, therefore sound quality.

The 3005 is a great kit, Sonor makes some incredible drums, but if you really want Yamaha you're going to be spending extra $$ in most cases compared to other manufacturers. I believe their Tour Custom goes for a grand for just the shell pack. I don't know much about expandability for any manufacturer, take a look around the site, or hopefully someone will see this and respond.

Just curious, what color do you have now?

The color is autumn fade which i guess isnt horrible its just not really to my liking but i mean if its gona cost alot more to get another color ill just keep my kit and put money into cymbals. Very Happy

post some pictures of your drums, the name sounds like it would be a nice color.

Anyways, ive played stage customs, and theyw ere the older kind, and they sounded incredible. Im sure you would like them, but i know nothing at all about sonar, so i cant tell you which is better, or compare it to other kits in its price range. But at the same time, only your ears can tell you whats better.

That's a beautiful finish! Personally, I'd keep the 3005.

What kind of sound are you going for with your floor tom?

I just noticed, thats an interesting way of mounting your rack toms. i usualy on see that on hanging "floor" tooms. Any reasoning you did that? or just felt like trying somthing different. That must be a pain to take the drums off.

i dont really know how to describe the tone im looking for except for i want it to be just a bit higher than my bass drum but im gona try experimenting a bit more. And i think im just gona keep the kit cause the finish isnt that bad and i really dont have the money to be dropping a ton on a new kit. About the way the toms are mounted. The way they are mounted is the way they came out of the box. I havnt changed anything. or maybe you are talking about something else and im just not getting it??

He's talking about the way the rack toms are mounted. Generally, on rack toms, the mouting arm points up, rather than down. It's no biggie, it doesn't exactly affect anything... just makes it easier to take the drums off and put them back on, really.

i really like that finish, man. i'd definitely keep it.

try to describe what you're looking for in that floor tom, there's going to be someone here that can help you without you going through a bazillion heads. are you looking for a deeper, warmer sound, or do you want to go brighter?
