Hey people!
I've been playing for about 8 years, and I've had my own kit for 3, a yamaha stage custom (10, 12, 14 power toms, 22 with a 14 snare) which I bought basically because I need a kit, and didn't have a whole lot of time to hang around deciding. I'm now settling into a band at university and it transpires that I need to get another kit, and was hoping you drum experts from the corners of the globe could help out!
Check out my band at myspace.com/bcok for an idea of what we sound like.
We're basically a pop band with funk and hip hop elements (we're hoping to push the hip hop elements soon in the future), and so I'd like to get a kit which fits with that. I'm currently thinking:
20" bass drum (lighter as we have to drive our gear around, hopefully can still get that low thump)
10 and 12" toms (shallower than the last ones, hopefully 10x7 and 12x8 to give tone without too much boom)
14/15" floor (again not too deep, maybe 11"/12")
Now can anyone think of a kit for about a £1000 that I can get? I think maple, but I'm open to opinion and reccomendations of course. I don't want one that comes with a snare really, cos i want to get to hand pick a piccolo snare myself.
I did consider DW so I can get proper customisation, but I daresay I don't need to spend that much, so any reccomendations!
PS-I want to mount the 10" and 12" over and slightly to the left of my bass drum, ideally hanging from a cymbal stand or a rack maybe, so i can squeeze a ride in next to the floor. A rack, or just off a cymbal stand?
Any advice would be great!
