A lot of great drummers wear ear plugs, so it's probably more of user error than the ear plugs.
Seriously, if you love sound, why would you run the risk of losing that which you love?
Would it be worth it in the end if you went deaf? People have. Will it be you? Only time can tell. _________________ A groove is a terrible thing to waste! |

Hmmm, I've never had trouble hearing my drums with ear plugs in. _________________ A groove is a terrible thing to waste! |

The problem with very basic ear plugs is that they just take out a ton of sound and muffle Everything. I've found that, sometimes, I wouldn't be able to hear intricate parts with regular old earplugs. I decided to spend the 15 bucks and get a decent set of musicians earplugs (Doc's Proplugs). They do a very good job of protecting my ears, while still allowing me to hear what I NEED to hear. I'm also starting to wear them at concerts (listening) as I find everything to be too loud nowadays.
Whatever one does, as a drummer, they should be wearing SOME kind of hearing protection. I have bad hearing out of my left ear, and I suspect it's because of NOT wearing hearing protection. _________________ "One day I feel I'm on top of the world

good quality plugs make the music CLEARER not muffled.
I prefer GOOD plugs even at a concert. you can hear the music over the crappy speakers. |

This is probably true, when my drum teacher scared me, I instantly bought some heros, which I have liked a great deal. They run about 20 bucks if I remember correctly. _________________ A groove is a terrible thing to waste! |
