Hey all. New to drums so I thought id go out and spend a lil bit on an electric drumset and got that dd502 off of ebay. It really rocks! Ive always wanted to play and now i finally get to! Couple of questions though.

1. Can I get any kind of drum module and hook it up to the set. I wanna add another tom and another cymbal, but I cant do it with the current module.

2. I have 8" pads and they have plastic tops. Not a problem really. Plays well and sounds great. Response is good when I hit the pads, but is there a place where I can get mesh heads? Ive looked everywhere I could and nothing is coming up. I would like one especially for my kick because even though I have my headphones on it still makes a nice boom (not so good for at night) The other pads are good for night though. I ask this cuz I would like to think that mesh heads are quieter. If not than nevermind.

Please help Smile Thanks in advance for your responses!

You should be able to use any module. Look at the plugs... they should just be 1/4" mono cables. Are you sure you need another module for hooking up more pieces? Most modules out there, their inputs are actually stereo inputs but you're feeding a mono signal into it for your cymbal/pad. So you just have to use a splitter and program the other channel. Refer to the instruction booklet of your module.

What country are you from? Lots of online dealers such as musiciansfriend.com carry mesh pads.

Im in America Smile

The module I have only allows 3 toms, a crash and a ride. They are a quarter of an inch. I actually started using guitar cables for my hihat and crash cuz it was getting a better signal that way lol..

Do I have to buy mesh pads or can i just get the skins?

What about this splitter, wont that take away from the signal?

Guitar cables are typically well shielded quarter inch mono cables so it's no surprise it's working better.

What skins are you talking about? You will have to buy electronic mesh heads. The ones made by Pintech I've heard are really good.

What you linked is just a mesh drum head, not an electronic drum pad. That's just for people to install onto their drumsets to play silently.

No, the splitter will not take away from the signal. You need to read the manual for your module. It will give this information if its inputs are actually stereo. Since you're just running mono, you'd actually only be using the L side of the stereo input and the R side is not even being used.

I dont wanna buy a whole new pad cuz ive seen the demo for the drum set and It shows the guy just replaceing the head (or skin whichever you prefer) So I just thought instead of buying a whole new pad which would cost an insane amount of money that I dont have (LOL) I would just get a mesh head. Its kinda cool that they have a video on ebay showing that, but makes me think I can just put a mesh head on. They said I can use whatever head I want that I favor but they didnt mention mesh.

Well maybe you can just change the heads with that kit. The other ones such as Roland and Yamaha you can't though (although I guess I'm not too sure about the top of the line Rolands).
