OK, so I have looked at all of these threads and whenever I try these, the drum sounds good from the drivers seat but not from a distance. How can I tune then drum to make it sound good from about 15' away?

Let it ring more, sometimes it helps to bring it up a little in pitch. If its really low the sound can get really muddy, so I'd suggest just another eighth or quarter turn on the heads.
