Hey dues, for a show im gonna play, i plan to light the sticks on fire and play for a while like that, or at least a few seconds. Anyhow, how would be the best way to do it? Vinnie Paul does it in the Music video's for "5 Minutes Alone" and "Revolution is my name", but how?

I imagine im gonna just wrap the sticks in a think layer of cloth or something, then let em soake in gasoline for a few hrs prior to playing, then at the show light em up. ??? Any ideas or suggestions???

That could turn bad really quick. Whatever you do, practice it before the show. Cloth might not be the best idea, since the fire will burn through it and it'll fly off your sticks while you're playing.

I really can't think of a better way to get banned from a club, honestly.

Hmm... This is most likely a very very very very bad idea. You'd have to run it by your venue in advance. Also, you better be *Holy Censor, Batman* sure that you can do it without hurting yourself or damaging your gear. That means lots of practice. I'm not sure if I should even suggest anything, because I don't want to be the indirect cause of a fire burning down your venue...

If you really want to do this, don't use cloth wrapped around sticks. You'll only have flying pieces of burning cloth going everywhere. I would suggest tympani mallets instead, but for pete's sake don't soak them in gasoline. Use something a little less explosive, like kerosene. I wouldn't try this, though. At best, you'll ruin your gear. At worst... the sky is the limit.

I wouldn't say the sky is the limit. I would say the worst is that you kill maybe 100 people?

wow. if you do this (which obviously you should NOT), at least have someone film it.

GASOLINE?!?!?!?! NOT THAT SMART!!!! Gas is much too explosive for this type of thing, and even if you don't use gas I still wouldn't reccomend doing it because you'll end up hurting yourself and possibly others and will most likely damage your gear. If you still do this though do not use gas or cloth... gas is too explosive and the cloth will just be burnt right through and probably fly off and hit someone.

Dude, if you're playing a venue, chances are there will be all kinds of flammable *Poop* around (yourself included). The drums/heads should be the least of your worries, as they are easily replaced. However, dead people and a burned down bar are a little more complicated.

If you are absolutely set on doing this (and I highly discourage you from even attempting it), please look into the following:
1. Check with the venue first to see if they allow pyrotechnics and in what form. Do they have extinguishers handy, etc.
2. Try it outside first - in an open area without any flammable crap around
3. Look for some type of lighter fluid gel, like used in films and other pyrotechnic displays: http://www.lemaitreltd.com/prostage2/ProductDescription.asp?idxProduct=61&idxCategory=25
That way, you can control where the stuff is located.

But, seriously, don't do this. Exclamation

Since he hasn't posted here again, I'm a little worried that he's either in jail, or in a burn unit. Shocked
