So I've been playing a POS Pacific since my second year of drumming and man, four years on that crap is more than enough. So now, I went to a local shop and talked to the owner, and he's got a Tama Starclassic Performer lined up for me....8", 10", and 12" rack toms, a 14" floor tom, and a 20" x 20" bass drum. Ohhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaah.
I'd like to know of anyone that plays Tama Starclassics and if they're really worth that extra cash. |

| The owner said he'd get it for me for a cool $1387. That's not including hardware or a snare, though. I looked into the Mapex M Birch because they were cheap and just the right overall size and specs for me (I tend to like smaller drums) and was going to spend about $800 on a six piece WITH snare and hardware, then upgrade later to something like a Tama Starclassic. I guess I'm only contemplating the Tama because it seems like I'm skipping a whole step...and I didn't realize I could actually afford them! |

| but then on top of that $1387 figure in 250-300 for a sweet snare to keep up with that set. so i guess it depends on how much you are willing to spend on that. and then hardwear costs too, im trying not to burst the bubble really lol, but its just extra costs that are going to be in there too |

I can recommend them. I have a fusion set of Starclassic Preformers and I love them. Great drums and an amazing sound. The bass sounds particularly stunning. Also the finishes are gorgeous. I can highly recommend these drums to you. Definitely worth the price and if you can afford them go for them. You won't regret your decision. _________________ "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear a fool than instead to open it and remove all doubt"

If you're wanting a really nice birch set, I can't think of a set that I've rather have than some Starclassic Performers. But as PearlRumDrum said, I hope you have more money saved up, because your total is goint to wind up quite a bit more than that... closer to $2k depending on exactly what snare and what hardware you go with. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

Yeah, I know it's gonna be pricy.
You said $2k?
Ha. Guess again.
I added up all the stuff I would want in a set, including the $1400 for the drums -- it hits $3865. And then more if I add in more cymbals or whathaveyou. I wasn't expecting a cheap kit when the Starclassic topic came into play, but I was pleasantly surprised when he said the total was just that much, especially after I watched his calculator climb into the $3000+ range. Thank (Insert Diety Here) for sellers' discounts!
And besides, if I had wanted a cheap, somewhat sufficient kit, I'd have gone with the Mapex M Birch set. |

I wasn't figuring cymbals when I said 2,000. I also said how it depends on the HW because if you're getting Tama Roadpro hardware or putting together a nice rack then just the HW alone will bring it a little above 2000.
I think it's funny because my drums cost $1300 and I've already spent nearly that again on more hw and cymbals and have a little bit more to go. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

I forgot to add in:
I would still like more input, though!
Anybody with Tama Starclassic Birch drums tell me what you like over other brands, if you don't mind, that is.
Thanks. |

| Dude go for the performer. Everywhere ive seen it its 1500 for a 4 piece! I have an M Birch yes its cheaer still shounds amazin but dude go with these. That was the one i was going to get but it was just to much for me. They have a better warmer sound to them and they just sond a little better than the M Birch seris i think. Man i strongly suggest to get the Starclassics! Thats what i would do. Id say just pay the full 1500 and get the snare or save it and get another snare Either way like i said there expensive cause there GOOD! And like a said ive never heard of them being that cheap. |
