I was messing around with the DW kitbuilder, and came up with an idea. It's a sort of Left handed/right handed combination. The idea is to put the bass drum on the left side, and use a left-legged double bass drum pedal to control it, and have a two-legged hi-hat stand against the bass drum. This means that you cna have all of your tom-toms together, and more cymbals. What do you think?

| Sounds like you're overcomplicating things to me. |

Well, i suppose it depends on how much you use your toms, i like to add polyrythms to normal drum beats using them, so I like them to be closer together _________________

It'd be a very expensive way of doing things, and would affect the sound in small un-amplified venues.
If you want toms close together, either get a decent mounting system, or a rack. |

It would work, but unless you get good at it, fitting that hi-hat in there right at gigs would be pretty tough. Sounds semi-complicated. _________________

| Hey i think thats actually interesting idea. IF i had money to waste i would go for it. I dont have nearly any of that. But if i could even buy anything i would do the rack thing or what ive wanted for a while. Get compressed toms so i can get them flat and really low down but still super close together! And if you want to do those polyrythms and all that you might just have to practice speed and presicion around your kit like i did. My toms arent super close iether but i did some Thomas Lang exercises and it helped out alot. I used to get rim sometimes now its nothing but skins. |

Maybe you could send me a link to (or explain) the Thomas Lang exercies. I'm pretty prone to hitting the rims when playing quickly. I've tried picturing a dot in the centre of each, but no luck.... _________________

Hey man all you do is triplets. Rlr Lrl. Accent the on being the capitol letters and repeat. Lets ay you have a standard 5 piece set up. Start with the snare and your going to play the accents on the first tom. So 123 123 or Tom snare snare Tom snare snare. THen you move it to the second tom and then the floor. The hardest is getting the left hand. After you do that then you start on the first tom. so 123 123 or Snare tom tom Snare tom tom. Playing the same thing but instead of originating it around the snare you do it from the first tom to everything else. then the second tom then the floor tom. Then you throw in the cymbals. No matter how hard it seems do it anyways. It makes your arms so freakin quick from on place to another and precise. Oh yeah and do it makes you good at double bass if you do it in unison with your feet.
Good luck |

You know, that's not too dissimilar from the setup I've been using lately. Mine is this:
Now, over the bass drum is an 18" china, 17" and 16" crashes. All of these are supported by a rope connected to a large dowel which is being balanced by the ride. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

You can't just describe an arrangement like that without providing pictures. Let's see that thing! |

Oh, I want to! But I can't find my digital camera and I'm not about to waste a roll of film on it.
Heck, It's even been made more extravagant in that all three toms and the splashes are all held by one dinky little stand. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

I don't know. That might be worth a roll of film if you ask me... |

Okay, I stole my roommate's camera for this, so should anyone oddly happen to both know him and that I live with him, keep quiet about it.
