Hi all

I'm having a bit of difficulty getting the sound out of my snare that i used to get.

It's a pearl masters MMX 14x6.5

Basically i used to get a lot of overtones, and really great attack.

I like a tight, sharp feel to it, making buzz rolls and changes to the backbeat sounding clean.

I think a lot of it is down to my actual snares, possibly how tight there are/aren't?

Any advice or tips would be appriciated.

My snare used to suck, it had a good 4 second ring after each hit. But then I got some new heads, and new wires and it sounds decent now. I found that when I REALLY tighten the top head it sounds better, but is probably not good for the overall drum/rims. I've noticed some 'erosion' on the rims where the screws go through them. I've also got the snares pretty tight on the reso. head, and that has seemed to help. So I'd get some new wires and heads and just try tuning it a bunch of different ways till you get a sound you like.

I've just realised that my reso had came loose AGAIN.

Snare is sounding rather sharp again..

I won't be replacing the snares, as they're masters MMX snares.

I've got some 48 strand snares that i tried on it a few months ago but i just couldn't get the tightness.

Problems are solved by pre seating heads
