Read the title of the thread. I have a hard time desynchronizing my hands and feet. If the bass is off-beat while the cymbals are on beat, it will screw up my entire rhythm.

If anyone has any pointers or exercises that can help to fix my problem with desync-ing, I'd truely appreciate it. Thx

lol, I have the same problem, or at least used to more... as boring and rutine as this may sound, it's the only way to do it... slow down the beat to 40 bpm and when you are comfortable and able to do it every single time perfectly, go up 5 or 10 bpm.... and do taht until you have it down at the right speed....

good luck

Desynching is a process that takes a very long time. I broke my coordination by just playing and playing. No matter how many times you mess up, keep trying. One time, it will click, and after that it will only get easier and easier in exponential amounts.

A funny sidenote: A couple months ago I journey'd back to the very basics just for kicks, and I was actually having a little trouble synching things like bass drum+snare drum backbeats etc Razz

Just goes to show no matter how advanced you get, you should NEVER forget your basics, otherwise you'll look silly like me!

I bought Jon Belcher's drum set workouts:

http://www.drumsetworkouts.com/

because he was my instructor for a while. I also have "4-way coordination". just practicing these little things a little every day, some small polyrhythm beats, and stuff like that helps. it's not just practice, but perfect practice. if you sit down and play the exact same beat every day, it's the only thing you'll get good at. you need to try some new stuff from time to time, IMO.

Definately, variation is key. Listen to a variety of music/drumming styles. Do independance exercises focusing on said limb. Keep everything the same, but doing variations on your RF or what ever. One thing one of my teachers taught me: "If you mess up once, try again. If you mess up twice, slow down."
