I stopped over at my local Guitar center where my new EXR kit awaits pick up this thursday! I went in there to check out some heads for them. When I got there, one of the salesmen directed me to a kit set up and ready for the upcoming drumoff competition. There was a sign on the set that said "don't play" They were the new Vision series from Pearl. Man, I have got to learn to leave my wallet at home when I go to Guitar Center!!
As soon as I set a stick to the 10" tom, I knew I had to have this kit! The guys at my local G.C. are tops! I got the 5pc. shelly for 600.00 out the door! They are really awesome sounding drums for the cash outlay! The finish and detail work on these shells is stunning considering the price! I'm glad I went in there tonight (for heads) These drums absolutely ROCK!!! forget about the EXR's which are a nice dance themselves. If there is anyone on the fence with this series..I say go for it!!!
This site won't let me post pics yet. But as soon as I can ...I will. Oh yeah, I got em in Gun Metal sparkle! _________________ PLAY WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU PLAY... |

They're pretty nice, but in the budget/starter range. They're the replacement for the old Export.
The new Export custom is towards the intermediate stage,
Definitely good value for money, but if you want great value - Get Mapex.
My Saturns shells cost me £699 ($1400ish) and you really do notice the difference. |

| Hey, got my Vision at the beginning of the month, £650, with a stool thrown in at half price, bringing it to £700. So happy with mine. It is in Amber Fade. All I was going in for was to buy a cowbell at the Pearl Day at my local drum store-DrumWright. |

Yeah the Mapex Saturns are def. nice! I've been a Pearl guy for the last 15 or so years..So, for me the Pearl brand was a no brainer. This series
with a head replacement (clear Emporers) on toms. sounds as good as the Masters BRX! The projection, the powerful tone, the fact that Pearl as a company, puts soo much emphasis on quality control and (SST maunu. process-same as Masters and Masterworks lines) attention to detail ie; precision bearing edges, shell interior finish work, The lugs, rims. chrome plating and a alloy Sesitone snare drum! 600 American dollars??? Sign me up! Mapex is a great company, but for my dollars Pearl is IT! Will post some pics when this forum will allow me to ALSO the Vision series is a huge departure from the "old Export" line of drums! ALOT of trickle down features from the Reference series. Peace! _________________ PLAY WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU PLAY... |

I started off with Pearl and wanted to go onto the Masters range, but with so many other fantastic companies around, the only thing that puts Pearl as a good choice is Hardware.
I rate Pearl's build quality below other brands such as Gretsch, DW and Sonor. I have a 06 Masters Custom MMX (Before this new Masters range) snare, i'm actually considering getting rid for a Black Panther snare.
From my experience, it's better to throw brand loyalty out of the window, and stick to what you love the sound of.
That's why I have a selection of Zildjian and Wuhan Cymbals, Mapex Shells and a Pearl Masters snare drum.
Good luck with your Visions, it seems you've found a sound that you were looking to achieve. |

I know you were'nt dissing Pearl drums. And I do appreciate your insight, however I have owned several other "big brands" and found that again, for my American dollar Pearl drums, especially the Vision series_ with their Limited lifetime warranty speaks volumes! That says to me that Pearl really stands behind the quality of their product. I have played the Tamas, Slingerlands, Rogers, Premiers, Sonor 2005, Mapex M series birch and the like.. all great set ups in their own right. I bought the Pearl VSX simply because they sounded the best to me in their price range. And in their price range they offer more pro features than any other kit I had been looking at including dw's PdP drums (FS and X7 series.) Sure there are the Sonor S class, Delites and Designer series. There are the dw maple shell, Spauns, Dunnetts, etc. Furniture pieces! that even IF I could afford to own one, I'd be afraid to take it out on a gig! Pearl has continued to deliver everything that through the past 15years, I've come to expect from that brand! To this drummer, Pearl has hit one out of the park with the Vision series birch drums! Ps I also own a Yamaha Hipgig kit that I love! Were you talking about the Mapex black panther maple shell?? Very nice drum! I had a chance to play one at my local Guitar Center! Peace to you and enjoy those Saturns!!! _________________ PLAY WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU PLAY... |

Never be afraid to take a pro kit to a gig
I've got a gig friday in a tiny pub in the middle of nowhere!
I'll be playing to around 15/20 people tops with my Saturns, Masters Snare and a range of pro cymbals.
Beautiful kit, but it's cased.
Drums are made to be hit. |

| Someone mentioned the new export custom. Skip it! The MCX masters are almost the same price, and you get all the Masters features. |

Concerning that brewski budget you've got, I recommend a nice Michelob Amber Bock over that Miller stuff they brew up there. |
