|
|
Just got my new PDP X7 shell pack! I was at Guitar Center hemming and hawing over Pearl VSX's and Gretsch catalinas. I spotted a stack of Orangey sparkle drums. Well, I set em up threw a quick tuning on them and was immediately impressed! I compared them to pdp's birch drums, and these poplar shells had all the attack and low end presence I had been looking for in birch drums! Yup. I bought 'em and got them home, changed the heads out to EVANS EC2's on all the toms and an EMAD on the kick. Oh man, these drums sound like sets costing hundreds more! The kick is amazing! The build quality is flawless! I believe that these drums are by far the best sounding for the money IMO. anyone else own one of these? What do you think?? _________________ PLAY WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU PLAY... |

How many drum sets have you bought in the past 3 weeks man???
I'm personally not a fan of poplar shells.
I had them on my Pearl Export and whilst they were fairly good, they just don't compare to pure Naple or Maple/Walnut (Like my Saturns)
Certainly do a job but along with basswood, they don't cut it in large gig/recording situation - for rock certainly.
Seriously though - had you not of bought these 3 kits could you not of purchased a single pro standard kit? |

To me, This kit (PDP X7) was more than enough drumset for my needs. with new heads and proper tuning, these poplar shelled drums sounded every bit as good as some of the other high buck kits I had the op to audition. btw: this is the only kit I have purchased. I opted for it, because of the outstanding sound characteristics as well as the flawless build quality and thirdly value. As I said in earlier posts, I am on a budget. Until I can afford to make my dream of owning my Drum Workshop collectors series shelly, these pdp's will more than suffice. Question, Why do you own a Saturn hybrid mix shell kit when the Orion Maple kit is out there? No offense..Just wondering _________________ PLAY WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU PLAY... |

Ooh..
From your other posts it sounded like you'd actually purchased the Visions. I thought you'd actually bought 2 or 3 sets in the past 2 weeks!
Moving to the Orion question...
You'll find that most of the touring drummers these days are choosing the Saturns over the Orion series as they have such a fuller sound.
It's 4-ply Maple and 2 inner plys of Walnut which gives it one hell of a bottom end as well as the fantastic attack and warmth of Maple.
The Orion series look really nice, but in all honesty, they don't sound as good as the Saturns, that's why I bought my babies! |
