Does any one know when Mapex switched there Pro m kits from baswood/maple mix to all maple? I am looking at a Pro M 6 piece kit in piano black with hh/stand - 750 bass pedal - Mapex throne and tom holders for $450. It has silver badges and he said he bought in 2005. I think it is a good deal if they are in fact 100% maple. What do you people think.

Without seeing the condition, I'd say it's a very sweet deal.

Make sure it's ProM and not MBirch.

Picked up the set today and man is it sweet. It has never left this guys house and is near new. Literally one or two scratch's on the set and you have to really look to see them. This is my first maple shell set and man do they sound sweet. I had a Yamaha Stage Custom and although I had them sounding pretty good these baby's sing. I can't express how happy I am with my purchase. Pictures to come but I gotta go back and play these some more.

To answer your question, I think that for as long as they've been called Pro-Ms, the've been all maple. Back when they were called the Mars series (a few years ago), they were maple/basswood combo.

$450 sounds like an awesome deal for some Pro-Ms. I paid 3x (6 piece studio setup) that and was happy with my purchase.

Gold-badged Pro M's were maple/basswood. Silver badged are all maple.
