|
|
So I'm going to be purchasing some mics for my average sized drum set pretty soon. I plan on getting 3 mics total with 2 small condensers in the recorderman set up and 1 bass drum mic. I am just wondering which pair of fairly cheap condensers will be best for capturing the entire picture (i.e. toms, snare, ride, etc.). I have 3 toms and 1 snare btw. I can spend up to about $250 on them. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks |

Superlux
Trust me.
The top of the line overheads from these babies are absolutely amazing.

Get the ones from this range. You wont regret it.
Rated better than the Shure ones by some would you believe!
Used them for many many gigs, i also know that only1music (in Cardiff) often borrow them from stock for recordings. |

Better than the Shure PGs or the SMs? For that same price you can get the Shure Drum Mic pack with a Beta52 and 3 SM57s. That's out of his price range though because his limit is $250 and you have to take into account for mic cables, good ones being $20-30 (or even more) a piece and mic stands. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

| I'm not simply looking for the "best" condensers for under $250 (as in $125 each). I'm looking for ones that are specifically good at capturing more than just the cymbals. Basically I just want to make sure that the condensers I get don't make the toms sound awful. So far I've looked at the Shure Pg81's, Audix Fusion 15's, and the MXL 993's. If Superlux's condensers happen to be good at what I desire, I can look into those too. |

Oh, well your link was to the whole set |
Yep it was!
It's the link i looked at before i bought them.
Awesome for all my gigs. I use them in a full set up. Before we gated them etc the Toms certainly were being picked up in the overheads. |

I've found pairs of Oktava MC012 condensers that sound great as overheads. In fact, I just used them on a jazz record I tracked recently. Barring those, check out the Samson C02 condensers. For what you pay, they'll do a passable job. _________________ "To recap, we've learned that Billy Cobham practices on water and Thomas Lang walks on it...I might have to bring this information to the local seminary to get their opinion..."
