I sing as well as play drums in my band, mostly backing though, but I do sing lead sometimes.

The drummer from Atreyu sings

I make noises while I drum, though I doubt anyone would classify it as singing. It's kinda like loud humming. It helps me focus on having the feel of the drums accent the mealody. I can't imagine actually trying to sing coherant words in tune while drumming.

Kudos to all who can.

Dino Campenella (not spelld rite) from Dredge can play drums and piano at the same time. I always thought that part of their song was looped until I saw it live.

He just puts the stick in his left hand under his right arm pit, then moves his left hand over to a keyboard on the left of his kit. He continues to play the beat then comes in with the melody as well.

Pretty fricken cool.

I sing, occassionally, while drumming. My new band has a piece (that I wrote) that I sing on. It's definitely a challenge.

So take this question one step further.

If you sing while drumming, do you use a mic on a stand or a headset mic?

Mic on a stand, much to my dismay...headsets are expensive.

I use a mic on a stand, but I'm trying to get a headset. See, I've got the percussion set up, the kit, and then when playing second guitar; it would be so much easier to just move to those other setups without carring the stand and all with me.

I tend to sing/beatbox what im doing outloud when playing with the band. Helps to keep me on track with the song and also sometimes sing the lyrics to myslef. I have also done backup vocals before but never got very good at it.

Singing while drumming to me is really fun.. It almost feels natural.. It's a liitle more weird singing with the guitar though, but with a little practice you can go a long way.. Don't forget Carter Beauford of Dave Matthew's Band.. he sings believe it or not. Very Happy
