Names Jeremy, And I need MAD advice.

My names Jeremy and im from Manitoba, Canada.
Ive wanted to drum since 13, my parents told me no.
At 15, I still wanted a set, once again told no... Instead I was bought a guitar.
I played the guitar from 15 to 17, gave up on ever thinking I would get a kit.
I am now 19, and while attending university and work full time I am still told while I live under my rents roof that I cannot get a set.

Welllll... Two days ago I went out and bought a "Wesbury 7 peice" for $300 canadain brand new (used two times by some kid). I cant bring the fricken thing home and my rents have no clue I went out and got it.

Questions: Is 19 an ok age to FINALLY start.
And what in gods name can I do to ease my parents into letting me bring a set (the set I have) home, Instead of playing it at my buddies (where it currently is).

ps: some of you are probably laughing but my rents are crazy catholics haha... so this is serious business from here.

First and foremost, congrats on the kit.

Second; it is NEVER too late to start.

Third: leave the kit at your buddies, and buy a practice pad to bring home. Even if you're parents aren't happy about it, at least it LOOKS like you didn't spend a ton of money to learn how to play. Also, a practice pad is the best place to START.

Fourth: See if you can afford lessons, otherwise there's a TON of useful drumsites with video lesson (which you can also find on Youtube) and other places. In the technique thread, I have a list of helpful links, stickied at the top, that should get you started. If you struggle with any of those, feel free to ask further questions here.

i just started drumming right before i turned 19. but if you want a kit at your house, an electric kit would be great since you can plug headphones into it.

Electric is THE WAY TO GO for this situation, and many others also. I use one to fold up and take with me just to play... gotta be mobile, just like a laptop is to a desktop computer!

Thanks guys, Ive now been playing for a few months. I have lots of the basics down and I have a teacher, He used to be a drum-tec for Def Leppard.

I have an extended set now two, two crashes, ride, china, splash... and double kick... I am actually pretty good with the double but I tend to lose my time on it so I have to throw on the metronome.
