Here we go!
What was your first kit... and what do you have now?
My first set (after the toy ones) was a used Ludwig Super Classic.. made in 1967 I go it in 1968 for $300! Little did I know that they were the best of the best in the world at the time... I was only 15 yo!
I sold them when got old enough to buy my first car... (regrets)
I'm now 46 yo. and finally have gotten my second set! New Ludwig Accent Custom Powers with Sabian AA cymbals... they are incredible and better in every way than the old Classic Ludwigs were!
How 'bout you all??

I had something to the effect of a TKO 5 piece with TKO cymbals. Let me tell you that was the trashiest sound I've ever heard. I started replacing cymbals first. An A-Zildjian Ping Ride, a Sabian AA Med-Thin Crash, and a AAX Studio Crash.
Now I have added A-Zildjian New Beat HiHats(everyone should own a pair) and a 10" AAX Splash to my Tama Starclassic kit, which is the greatest thing ever. |

Mine is a Pulse, 5 piece with hi-hat and economy ride/crash. To you all it may sound like a piece of crap but i love it Having said that a friend of mine is getting me some new hi-hat cymbals which I can't wait to try The next thing I will do is buy a good crash and use this one as a ride cymbal only .... if I ever get good enough to actually play anything
It's my first kit .... 3 weeks old ..... and I'm 44. |

My first kit was a Red Glitter wrapped Ludwig 5 piece set with Kingston cymbals. My Dad bought it for me (after an enormous ammount of incessant begging from yours truely!) from our neighbors kid when I was 14. I was playing drums in the Jr High Marching Band at the time and wanted to "expand my horizons" to a trap set! Thanks Dad! I'll never forget the day you wrote the check (for $100!) and I went across the street to get them! Oh and thanks for putting up with all the noise too! *wink* I'm 41 now and play Pearl Sessions.

I'm still playing my black 5 piece Pearl Export Drumset. I started off with Zildjian ZBT cymbals (13" hats and 18" crash/ride), and received a 50+ year old cymbal which I loved dearly. Sadly, a crack put it into retirement. Fortunately, through a few people I know, I managed to obtain a 17" K Custom Dark Crash and an 18" Z Custom Rock crash for the whoopin cost of $0.00. I also recieved my Trash cymbal for an amazingling expensive $0.50. This year, I bought a Pearl Eliminator Double pedal, but got a defective one, and had to have it replaced. I've also got Sound Percussion hardware (great company for hardware).
For heads, I began simply with the Evans G2 head pack, but hated them. So I bought a Pinstripe pack. I now have a Powerstroke III on the kick, an attack 1 ply on the snare and Attack 2 ply heads on all the toms except for the floor.
I've been playing for around 5 years and hope to upgrade rather soon. |

| A brown sparkle (yes, you heard right) Ludwig with a 13" mounted and 14" and 16" floor toms with a Rogers chrome snare. All were "concert toms" with no bottom heads. I had Camber hats, crash and ride with no stands that I mounted upright by wedging PVC piping into my bed frame and holding the cymbal on with a drumstick attached to the top of the piping. It was a ragamuffin supreme, sounded dead and awful and I was glad to get a better kit. |

Red Sparkle Ludwig classics with assorted Zildjian cymbals. I at first thought they were the best thing ever, then after a few years "grew" to think the set was too small and uncool... now I wish I had kept it all these years a) because they were actually great drums, b) for the sentimental value and c) because they would be worth countless times what my folks paid. (...but mainly b.)
I doubt I could remember all the kits I have had since, but I'll never forget that one. I've paid over 40 times more for several kits since, but never got more out of one. |

My first set was a 60s ludwig which my father bought for me five years ago. (I was 9) Well, to be honest, it had the *Poop* beat out of it when I bought it and I couldn't get a decent sound out of it.
Then I started taking lessons three years ago and relized that the ludwig sucked. The snare was demolished and I couldn't get anyone to fix it.
I sold it for two hundred dollars after I bought my pearl (2000). Now that I think of it I wouldn't of bought it if I had played on a real set before the purchase. And even yet, now that I think of it I should have saved that set and tinkered around with it.
