Hello fellow Drum Dogs.
I've just got a second hand (year old) Mapex M Birch Fusion kit and it requires a replacement bass drum batter head. Now I've not owned or had much experience with Mapex kits before and would like to know from other M Birch users on how much (or if any at all) muffling the bass drum requires. I know much of it is personal preference and according to style but would be interested to see what the general opinion is as it will affect my choice of head. This is to say do I go for a bog standard head and use some internal muffling if needed (I have no res head port hole though so tricky to adjust) or go for a batter head with built in adjustable muffling. I would like the cheapest option really! Also any recommendations for batter heads which will bring out the best of the Birch bass drum(and a not forgetting a layer of maple on top!) would be greatly appreciated. |

I owned an MBirch a year ago. All I did was put on an Aquarian Superkick II for the batter and the matching ported reso and all was good.
What I've found (personally) is if you want to put a very effective muffler in place, look into the Dave Weckl bass drum muffling system. It's awesome and fully tunable to your muffling requirements. _________________ Bish

I also used the Aquarian Superkick II and the matching ported reso. For the batter heads I use the Aquarian Studio X. I've noticed a lot of people with the M Birch use Aquarian heads. _________________
