Yeah, me too. It's gotta be big drums though. At the moment I only got 13, 16, 22 & 14 snare, but I gotta get a 24" kick and 18" floor!!!!
I think you should "feel" the low end of drums rather than hear that nasty "pingy" high-pitched sound. My opinions here! So don't go flaming me!!
I know small drums are fashionable at the moment, but I'm just bored of it. Nobody plays big drums these days................................... |

No, not really mate. I'm not a big fan of his playing, but I do like his sound. |

I like the sound of big drums too, but the idea of carrying around a 24" bass drum is not terribly appealing I was leafing through an issue of Modern Drummer yesterday, and there was a picture of this guy sitting behind a DW kit with this blue-green swirly finish and the bass drum was 26" or 28" (!!!) It was ridiculous. The rim of the drum came up to his chest. |

I do play jazz primarily, though I also play a lot of rock. The problem about being a high school student in a small town is that not a single person wants to, or can, play jazz. Therefore I am stuck playing rock. It's better than nothing. I do listen to a lot of rock, but I'd much rather play jazz.
I just started playing without a crash because of the newest addition to my kit - a 20" Zildjian K Constantinople Medium. I find that it is not only an amazing ride, but also a great crash. My other ride is a K Custom Dry Ride, which is ultra dry. The two rides work very well together. For my hats, I have 14" A Mastersound, which I love. They are extremely versatile.
My drumset is big- a Tama Rockstar DX, which was handed down to me when my brother upgraded to a Premier Signia Maple. It was free, so I can't really complain, but I despise the sound of them. I want an 18" kick with 12" and 14" toms. It suits my playing syle much better. |

Yeah, that's Abe Laboriel Jr. He plays with Paul McCartney, and that 28" bass drum of his is HUGE. |

I have so many favorite jazz drummers, all completely different in style. They would have to include: Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Jeff Hamilton, Bill Stewart, Brian Blade, Ed Thigpen, Jorge Rossy, Joe Morello, Al Foster, Jimmy Cobb, Art Taylor, and many others that I'm sure I have forgotten.
As far as non-drummer influences go, there is Trane, McCoy Tyner, Miles, Kenny Barron, Brad Mehldau, Bird, Kenny Garrett, Keith Jarrett, Jackie McLean, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Gregory Tardy, and a whole buch of others. It wouls be impossible to name anywhere near all of my influences, drummers and non-drummers alike. |

I like fusion sized drums in general. I think they are a good compromise between the tone of a decent size drum and the portability of a smaller drum. I can't imagine carrying around a 28" bass drum... |

| my kit has small drums (as I said before 12", 14", 20") But if I could get a custom I'd want shallow toms too. like 10x5, 14x8, 16x10, 20x17 |

Hmmm......I find it odd that you want a snare with a 4.75" depth. What is the difference between that and the more convential 5"? |
