Ok, so first of all, I'm always breaking sticks...I play very, very relaxed, and I play Vic Firth 5A's. I don't know why, but I can't stop breaking drumsticks Sad
I'll go out and but 3 new pairs, and within about 2 weeks they're all broken. Is there anything I can do or any other sticks I can buy that wouldn't break so quickly? I really don't want to use Ahead or any size above 5A.

My other question is what are Vic Firth AJ1's like? I've heard that they are the size of 5A's with the feel of a 7A. Is this true? If it's not, is there any kind of stick like this?

And my last question is: are 3 drumsticks any good (the company)? I know they are made by DW, so I was thinking about trying some, but I thought I would get your alls opinion first...
Thanks! Very Happy

i would examine your playing style, and see if youre doing anything that could make sticks break more often. one thing to look at is the height/angle of your cymbals. if you're hitting your cymbals, especially the crashes, right on the edge then youre drastically reducing the life of your sticks as well as your cymbals. also, excessive rimshots can have a similar effect.

Would coating them in a layer of duct tape have any effect on it?

If your sticks are splintering or "peeling" then you are gouging them on something. Most likely the hats or flat positioned cymbals.

Yes, anything they touch will become sticky.
