Hi,

I want to use an external electronic drum brain midi out and then into the Kurzweil PC2X midi in. I want to play the external drum brain to trigger the PC2X sounds.

I am getting the idea that this process is pretty generic - as far as programming the midi channels etc.

But I am a complete novice. So -- do I have to midi-program both units to communicate with each other? Or (because of GM midi rules) do you just go midid out of drum brain - midi in to the PC2X and the PC2X autonmatically assigns the midi signals to its drum sounds?

Help me out please?

Thanks,

Woods

From my understanding of midi, all of the programming will be done on the PC2X side. On your controller, the only thing you will need to set is your pad settings.

I defy anyone to do a google and find anything directly relating to what it is I am trying to do:)

All I want is something talking in general terms about this particular thing -- trying to match up midi channel info. So that a drum module can trigger the slave's drum sounds.

Nobody here has described it yet. Yeah you've touched on it in your own way but in the typical way that people who already know how to get somewhere describe directions to the lost. Most of the time there are lots of shortcuts implied that the lost guy knows nothing about.

Could you pleae try to outline the principles behind my partricular pursuit?

Thanks again,

Woods

You're going to have to read the manuals for the two devices.

For pad settings, within the drum module, you can set things such as pad sensitivity/etc - all of the characters you'd find when striking an actual drum. Midi out of the drum module into midi in of the slave machine. How you setup the slave machine to do with the midi information being streamed into it is going to be however it's own user manual says.

Yes, I got most of my own information on midi over the internet Wink Look up midi on wikipedia and go from there.
