Technically, you should be able to load new sound banks onto the module, but I had the III module and Yamaha never got around to releasing any.
As for triggering anything off of your laptop, you should need some music software (GarageBand, Reason, Pro Logic, Pro Tools, etc). Most major music software will allow you to hook it up as an external midi device and trigger sounds. It's going to depend on what sound software you use for exactly how it works. Hardware wise it'll be module midi out - (unless you have an external sound card with midi-in) midi to usb device - laptop.
