I am trying to find the most appropriate set of drums I can for my son. He is 10 but has been wanting to play drums for many years. He has Wii Rock Band and loves playing the drums on this, but isn't getting the same satisfaction as with real drums.
We are finally giving in and going to get him a drum set. He wants acoustic, not electronic. I have been unable to source an intermediate range set second hand (we currently live in Singapore) so we thought we'd get a new, entry level model, given his age and the fact that he is already taking exams for guitar.
I have found both Yamaha and Peace drum sets but I don't know which is better. As I said, we may just go with the entry level model (Gigmaker or Legion). Which is the better set? Is it true that the Peace drums have acrylic shells rather than wood? Or is there a better make for someone starting out?
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I know he will need to try out the drums before making a final decision, but don't want to waste time looking at a set that won't have a good sound to start with.
