Other than reading sheet music its playing different parts of the set at different tempos at the same time.

Ill give an example, on the song "Build a bridge" by Lump Bizkit there is a quick (I guess 16th note) hi hat struck three fast times on each part while playing the bass and snare on 8th notes??

#Mad GGGRRRRR I can never do it!! lol

Playing bass and hi hat at different tempos is definatly my greatest weakness.

What I am doing to improve:

Ive only been playing for about a month, but I use pictures istead of counting. Its kinda ghey but, I visualize a rock skipping across the water, with fish underneath, each fish is a bass strike, and each rock skip is a snare or hihat hit.

Of course this is why I suck at hi hats that dont perfectly match in with bass hits lol.

Sometimes it`s high speed playing. My left hand was really weak due to old injury, I think. I work on it and now I can make near 360-400 bps with left hand only. Thanks Gladstone technique Very Happy.

Actually this one thing I was working on for a song sounded cool, but I couldn't do it again. I did a fill on my cymbals, like 2 hits on each. I sounded wicked cool, but cymbals are alot farther apart than drums, and I can't go nearly as fast, but once I get it it'll be sweet.

Hey beatz, too build up your left hand you should just do everyday things you do with your right, except do them with your left. Such as using a spoon/fork, changing the channel on the remote, drinking from a cup. Basically just pretend you have no right hand and you gotta use your left for everything. Oh ya one more suggestion, brushing your teeth.

I struggle with fast stuff. I've got a lot better at it, but I still feel uncomfortable playing stuff that's really fast.

I'm self-taught which seems to make progression a good bit slower, but I'm having fun with it. And that's all that really matters... right? Wink

staying in the pocket. i ultimately learned how to play solos very well when i first started, so that affected my ability to just groove and not add ridiculous amounts of notes in my fills or be flashy when i am grooving (twirling sticks, crossing hands, playing w/one hand...dumb stuff like that). like i said, my "simplicity" could use some improvement.

Stop brushing your teeth with your left hand Very Happy. You better work on triplets 3-4 hours every day. It`s boring, but you`ll see your progress much faster Smile.
