I've been playing for a while and it still happens. At first it really bugged me and I did everythig i possibly could to try and stop it. I then realised I have a crappy snare. You may think it's noticeable, but i find it's not. Unless your snare is mic'd people can't really notice it, unless you are just hitting the tom. If you are plaing with all 4 extensions of your body you can barely hear it.

Sympathetic vibration. Happens all the time, whether it be from drums, or from other instruments. It really isn't anything to worry about, I think. Usually even when it's mic'ed, it gets cancelled out by all the other instruments. I think it adds characer, personally.

You can try various tunings to reduce it but you'll likely never abolish it completely. Believe it or not, the best way to eliminate it is the un-heard-of practice of loosening the snare. I'm talkin' flappy: barely hangin' on - maybe a step up from there. Your tom's will sing cleanly but you'll lose some sensitivity from the snare, especially playing softly near the rim. But if you're playing rock or something with straight beats you won't notice anything different except how good your toms sound.
