I was under the impression that ayottes from the 80's and even some of the current ones (post-ray ayotte) are really the domineering kits in the industry. _________________ Capitalism is where man exploits man, Communism is the other way around. |

The prize is good? What do you win? I'll take my SRX's and the $2000 I saved and get me some nice K's.

The best price for a maple drumming to date is probably the Gretsch Maple Renown. For the price/sound, it's $1800 rather than $3000-$5000 where most Maple kits fall in price range. The sound is a good competitor too. After all, this is a DW thread...so I shouldn't spam |
I'm inclined to think that Pearl Session (Maple) is the cheaper deal for maple shells. _________________ http://homepage.mac.com/strib/drums/drum1.jpg |

Those little plastic dolls with the crazy hair popular in the early 90's? Or the mythological creatures? Well, you've called a forum member a troll because you incorrectly believed he was a communist based on his sig. So why don't you tell us? _________________ free and easy |

An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people.
Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict. Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it). At the moment, the relative anonymity of the net allows trolls to flourish.
Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility. |

Here is an example:
I am a photographer, and spend a lot of time on the Nikon msg boards and discuss topics with Nikon gear. Most of you probably don't know this, but Nikon users and Canon users are like Ford owners and Chevy owners. They butt heads all the time.
Anyway, a troll is a person that would post something like "Nikon sucks because it sucks, canon rules i love them" on a thread discussing something like "why we love our nikons".
They aren't serious posters, just somebody that throws around garbage. Hence the guy that started posting stuff like "DW sucks major is the worst crap in the world bla bla bla". Obviously not a serious reply, rather a joke of sorts.
THAT is a troll. _________________

Okay, I'll buy that. But Slupguff listed reasons why he thought they sucked (not what I'd call valid reasons, but reasons enough). And if his experience lead him to that conclusion, I don't see how that makes him a Troll, unless you're talking about the fact that he came into a We love DW forum and said that. Guess I don't really see a difference either way. If someone has a valid arguement, I'll listen to it. If not, I simply ignore it. _________________ "I'm not dumb, I just have a command of thoroughly useless information" - Calvin of Bill Waterson's "Calvin and Hobbes" |

Another example of a troll in the "nikon vs canon" context:
The same troll might post something like "Gosh, my nikon camera sucks azz! it always breaks, never works, and takes horrible pictures. I might sell all my nikon stuff".
Coming from a guy who has never used any nikon gear at all, and is just in the thread "trolling". _________________

you have to think of DW drums and hardware in the way a bassist would think of say...Carl Thompson, butterfly or F bass guitars...or a Guitarist would think of a custom shop Fender, Gibson or PRS...when you think of any one of these brands you are thinking of some of the very best instruments in the business.
expensive? yes...but, what you pay for them is well worth it...fact is, these drums sound flawless...even unmiked... the reason they're so popular probably has something to do with the fact that they're the best....if one can't get a set of DW's to sound absolutely luscious, I'm suspect of them having any knowledge of drums at all...
DW drums are superior to all other brands in every way...
also, this isn't knock on other brands, if Yamaha, Tama, Pearl, Gretsch or any of the like offered me a sponser would I jump on it? in a heartbeat...but as long as I'm paying for it, I'll gladly shell out top dollar for the finest percussion instruments money can buy |

theyre definitely up there with the best, but they arent the hands down best drum maker, period. there are so many custom companies that make just as good sounding, and even more customizeable kits that cost fractions of the price. DW got where they were obviously because they make very good drums, but at this point in time there are definitely some other companies nipping at their heels. they are an icon in the drum world, simply because they are DW. they could start making the worst kits imagineable, and lots of people would probably say that they are amazing without even playing them, simply because of the brand. yes, they are very good, but you can just put them up on a pedestal because of the brand behind the drums. _________________
