I found a stupid good deal on a set of almost new Pacxific CXL's. 22x18 kick and the new shallow hanging toms all around.
They sound alright the way they are, but I think they could sound great. Nice medium heavy hardware, even the cheap double kick pedal has a nice response.

Any opinions or experiences

I'd have to agree. I've played some of their sets and they lacked a GREAT amount of warmth and resonance.

ive had an L(X) pacific kit for a couple of years now and i think its awesome. its easy to tune, it has a great tone and records really well - sounds like a DW.the 18x22 kick is amazing.

some people like that quicker controlled tone of a tom, other people like bigger tom sounds that resonate (dont kno why tho) Shocked

I always thought pacific cxl's were good, what with being maple, good hardware, good sizes, being a division of DW and all. But it suprises me that you guys don't like 'em, I'll keep that into consideration if I'm ever in the market for a new kit.

The bashing that DW/ Pacific takes is unbelieveable.
Each person loves there own syle of drum kit I own a DW, Pacific, Ludwig and a Tama. Yes the DW set was a lot of money and yes it's my fav. To be fair, look at all the artist that use the DW kits. Of course they dont pay for them.

The idea of a lower model of the DW kit for the affordablity person in mind, this was a fantasic idea Every drum Co. makes a lower end kits.

The person who thinks that Pacific kits are horrible has not really sat down behind a Pacific kit and actully played one that was tuned properly. They probaly went to the Music store got a pair of sticks and bang around on them for about 3 min.

I'm willing to change my stance when I find a Pacific set I like. I actually did sit down and attempted to tune the *Holy Censor, Batman* thing, but even that prooved to be a half-day endevor. Don't even get me started about the kick drum...

I have a low end Pacific and it sounds pretty amazing for what it is (the Chameleon). My father has a very nice LX, as well. I'd highly recommend Pacific, and I think they're dominating the mid-grade market right now.

I have an FS (yep, their bottom of the line) and as far as I'm concerned, until I get steve to build me the stave kit I want, I'm keeping it. The toms are some of the most amazing ones I have heard, and the kick is also very nice. Granted there's also the birch/maple question with me falling toward birch.

It all opinionated but I can make my Pacific CX sing just as good as any set I've had previously. It's all about tuning. I've heard some amazing drummers on some really crappy low end sets. Here's my CX and I'm satisfied Very Happy
