A couple weeks ago I stopped by a small drumshop in another city near where I live. Funny how a drumshop, run out of a little bittie house and on a main drag, can cause a truck to be drawn to it like a horny male dog is drawn to the heat of a female 500 yards away. Anyway, they had some really old Singerland drums and some other old stuff. Eventually I came across some really lightweight sticks made by Regal. They are Combo sticks and have been in use for a while. I have never paid much attention to them before. In fact, the smallest stick size I have used would be 7a's in 31 years. So I bought a pair to try out in those circumstances where one would usually use Hotrods or something similar. I was amazed at the different sound these sticks produced on my snare. Apparently due to the lightness and the fact that these things have a lot less mass, they produced a much higher pitched sound on my snare. They made my snare sound something like a piccolo snare.
