Thought I'd share an idea I came up with for a great inexpensive djembe stand. I have used it at over 10 gigs with great results.

Instead of having to pay $129 for an acutal djembe stand, which is pretty big and cumbersome as well, I bought a metal, vinyl-coated plant-stand at Home Depot (I have also seen them at Frank's Flower Time Nursery, KMart, Walmart). This plant stand sits on the floor, and it raises the djembe about a foot off the floor to mic it underneath as well as above if you like. This also allows me to stand behind it, or sit on a bar-stool and the djembe is at the perfect height for playing. You cannot adjust tilt, but you can tip the drum a bit while playing, which adds to the excitement---and you feel like Jon Lord of DP or Keith Emerson of ELP! and get this--- all this fun was only about $8!! I also left the "Patio Life" tag hanging off the stand---it is quite the conversation starter at shows!

here's a basic picture of it, so you know what to look for when you shop:
