Don't focus on the whole set. Focus on 2 drums. The Bass drum and the high tom. This is why. Once you get those drums set the way you want, you can "sing" the rest of the set.

For instance. Tune your high tom. When you got it, hit the drum and then sing a drum fill. That is the tones you are looking for. And no matter what you do, when you hit that high tom, you will always get that same fill in your head.

Same thing with your Bass drum. When the Bass is tuned, sing a bass / snare beat. Sing "Boom" for the Bass and "TA" for the snare.

I am always working on my drum tuning. Tightening, loosening, muffling, figuring out the overtones.

One more thing. For the time being, if you have bottom heads on, take them off. Get used to figuring out the top heads before delving in the bottoms.
