| Im trying to learn heel toe technique, but Im a size 12.5. I play barefoot on a dw pedal. I need to know how to deal with this issue. Do they make dif types of pedals for bigger feet? My toes would get crushed if I try and use my heel. Thanks!!! |

i wear a size 12, and used to think the same way, then purchased a video from rkettner that pretty much showed me everything i need to know. i found that playing heel\toe with DW pedals (with the heel risers) tends to be a little harder, try using the ball of your foot and toes....same concept as heel\toe, just no heel. browse through previous discussions and you will find the website to the vid i got. it honestly helps. _________________ Candy - taste like chicken, if chicken was a candy. |

What excactly os the ball of your foot, is it the peice that is about in the middle and sticks of to the right (or left if on the left foot).
A while back I fell down the stairs in my house and must have screwed that peice of my foot up, its been at least a month and my foot still hurts if you press on it right their. _________________ Sometimes rude, sometimes nice - say something I dislike and pay the price |

I don't really use the heel/toe technique. I just use the ball of my foot too. I can get pretty good speed. I have been practicing a lot with the double bass pedal with a metronome, and I have improved my speed greatly since I first got my pedal.

The ball of your foot starts like where your toes end, and it is a little above the middle of your foot. It's kind of hard to explan. Here is a website that shows a picture of it. Where the metatarsal bones are is the ball of your foot.

All you have to do
because I have 12.5 and I use shoes so I imagine that mine are bigger in the end than 13, but even if not, its not bad
I don't even lift up my heel to play those john bonzo bonham triplets
Just bust out this exericise---
HiHat on 1, 2, 3, 4
Snare on either 3, or 2 and 4 -- Practice both!!
Bass on the "Trip" and the "Let" of 1, 2, 3 and 4...
So thats 2 hits right in a row--but start with an 00bar slow metronome time and then work it up... I can do it real quick, sounds like a double bass petal... Im no dennis chambers, but most people arent =-D _________________ If you love drums,

Another (admittedly expensive) alternative is out there if you want to maintain your heel/toe technique as it is -- get some Axis longboard pedals. They have a longer footboard that appears to be specifically designed for heel/toe playing. They even accomodate us guys with big feet. They sure ain't cheap, though. |

| Wait, so if you do the ball/toe technique, do you still slam your heel down first? Or is it more like pushing the middle of the foot down? |

| Yeah I was able to do that today....but it was a lot easier with shoes for some reason. I was hitting the pedal with the upper third of my foot, then toe. Need to practice it more. |
