Hello all,
I was just wondering is it possible to tear a drum head by tightening it too much? I know some people who prefer their heads as tight as possible but does this not make it more likely to split?
Thanks in advance for any replies! |

Yeah I've ripped a couple Remos right out of the collar while tuning. I'm slowly switching to Evans, though I'm sticking with Remo for resonant heads unless I can find something made by another company that's just as thin as the Diplomats.
Remo's QC isn't very good, and Evans has gotten a lot better since I first tried them 10 years ago (wore out a coated snare head in a week, never tried them again until the EMAD came out). _________________ "Hipness is transient. Remo's have failed me on two occasions. once during a show I broke a Remo bass head that I had just bought an hour earlier... and now my snare reso head broke, when it wasn't even close to being cranked. So now I'm using Evans G2 coateds on the toms, Aquarian Satin Coated Studio X on my snare, Evans Reso snare head, and Aquarian Superkick II bass drum head. _________________ Yamaha SCA

| I have an Evans head that won't die on my old snare that i use for practice. The sucker's cranked and has been for about a year and I can't rip it at all so I've given up. I haven't decided which is the better company,(though I do love my new EMAD) but I can honestly say that Evans are more durable and stronger. |
