Hi. I'm a guitarist in a hardcore type band and we just found a drummer. the problem is he hasnt been playing that long and his beats (rock and some punk) dont really go with our songs. He's a really big, strong guy and it pretty coordinated, but just doesnt know what to play. Can you guys link me to some tabs of hardcore drumming or reccomend some hardcore songs for him to learn?

thanks, paul

i'm in a metal-core band right now. if you guys play anything like we do, it's all about breakdowns, blast beats, hyper-blasts, and just heavy riffs in general. i usually get ideas for hardcore riffs and stuff from bands like Bleeding Through, Zao, Between The Buried and Me, Curl Up and Die...etc. For metal mainly Slayer. I'm not sure if you've heard of a band called The Number Twelve Looks Like You, they are def screamo/hardcore...their drummer is amazing. He is super fast, super tech, and has a huge variety of beats. Check those guys our for ideas.

Hmmm I would say if he hears the music and does not know what to play he has not been drumming long enough to be playing in a band.

Tell him to listen to anything you guys are influenced by, if he likes it tell him to practice it...

I just fell in with a hc band, its all a new experence to me.. ive been studying alot of Poison the well, hatebreed, FATA and other stuff my band mates are into. Helps alot.

thats a good point. i guess if he knows the basic beats and has some punk rock beats down, he may be able to learn blast beats and faster beats just by listening. thats what i did and it worked out pretty well. but everyone is different in their learning techniques.
