I'm looking for a head combination to give me a very good booming sound with little or no ring at low tunings. I don't really want to be able to hear the heads themselves, but I want lots of volume. I don't want an over muffled sound, btu am not opposed to mufflign the heads...
any idea if this is possible (and how) or is it kind of one or the other?? _________________ everything=3 |

| I'd suggest Aquarian Performance 2s on top with Classic Clears on bottom. The P2s are extremely tough, have very little sustain, and a lot of bottom end. |

Yep, Performance IIs might work for you. I played them for a short time - they definitely have the bottom end your looking for, but I don't remember them being particularly loud. You could also try Response 2s (or Evans G2s, Remo Emperors/Pinstripes) with some Moongel for muffling (if necessary). _________________ "If I didn't make a living beating things with a stick, I'd probably be in a lot of trouble!" - Alex Van Halen |

Is anybody else confused by this sentence? You do know that you get your volume by the sounds the heads make right? _________________

I think he means he doesnt want to hear the attack of the head, but he doesnt want to hear the resonance either. capybaralet, what DO you want to hear? _________________ The Silvertones |

sorry if that didn't makemuch sense
I want to hear the drums pitch but not the sound of the stick hitting the head... like if you tune the heads so loose that they don't make the drum vibrate, you just hear the snap of the stick hitting the head (or when you tune them really tight) ..... anyway, a lot of drums and heads I've heard (esp. cheap ones) sound that way
trying to make more sense here _________________ everything=3 |

there is no way to avoid having the stick contact with the head making a noise. Actually, that is part of a nice sound. Concentrate on tuning your drums properly and nothing like that will even enter your mind. _________________

I was using this exact head selection until just the other day. I switched to Evans Hydraulic Glass oil filled heads on the tops. Nice warm sound with the perfect amount of sustain. |

| Use remo pinstripes or aquarian peformance 2's on top and remo ambassadors or aquarian clear classics. |
