Ive been using a pillow to muffle my Rockstar Custom bass drum for a while. It gives the drum too much of a dead sound. Any suggestions on a better way to muffle? Ive recently bought a new evans hydraulic head so buying a self muffling head such as the aquarian super kick is out of the question for now. Thanx

I use Tama's Power Kick bass drum mufflers. It's littlebit expensive but it works. Wink

I have a RC too. I don't muffle the kick any more (not since I discovered the greatness of the Super Kick II/Regulator combo), but used to have some foam eggcrate in there. I cut a strip of it that went about half way up the sides and was just wide enough to lightly touch both heads. Worked pretty well - you might want to give it a shot.

I have them on my Rockstar Custom kick. I'm happy with the sound. Tuned relatively loose with no extra muffling, it has a big, boomy sound without too many ringing overtones - I always say it sounds like a canon. If you like your kick more punchy than boomy, just adjusting the tuning (or adding a little extra muffling) will get you there. I bet you'll be very pleased with the SK II/Reg. combo. Cool

I use a Remo Muffler on the bass drum.
It does the job pretty well.

I agree 100% with Snake's comments about these heads/tuning. I use no muffling live. I have use these on my rockstars and my pacific birch kit.

In the studio I did stuff the kick with towels/sweatshirts...anything around. the recording turned out to have a huge kick sound but I don't unerstand that stuff much.

I use an Aquarian with a Falam Slam.

It sounds amazing. And loud.
