If anyone cares, I'm going to see Anthrax on Sunday night! Yes!
Charlie Benante the inventor of the blast beat!!! Woo Hoo!
I'll let u all know on Monday how it went.....If there are any other Metalheads out there who give *Doggedy Doo Doo*.....I know there probably isn't, because I get the impression there are quite a few limp-wristed jazzers and Dave Weckl wannabies out on this forum....

| Ohhhh, are you trying to goad us with that nonsense! LOL! What if we love metal AND jazz?! Hey man, I'm glad you get the opportunity to see your idol - that's great! And remember: when it comes to musical genres, it's ALL good!!! |

I wouldn't say it's ALL good. Theres a lot of very bad jazz, a lot of very bad metal, most "r 'n b" is horrific, and of course, ALL boy/girl bands and manufactured pop music is just pure evil.......
I'm feeling controversial today! U can tell, right? |

ya you sound pretty controversial, You know slipknots drummer used to play jazz, if you listen closely he still has that jazzy feel to it. Im accualy starting a classical funk/metal band... we're not sure what to call it thou...
two suggestions are CLunk, or Crap, it should be interesting _________________ ~Fonz~ |

You really sure that Anthrax's drummer actually invented the blastbeat? I've heard NUMEROUS arguments that it was actually one of DRI's drummers, seeing as they WERE the first guys to push punk into thrash.
I am hurt greatly by your comment about "limp wristed jazzers and Dave Weckl wannabies." In fact, I think it shows an essence of PURE IGNORANCE of other styles in the world of drumming. You want to talk about limp wristed jazzers? Listen to Billy Cobham and think again. Chances are Max Roach, Elvin Jones (lord knows, Elvin could), and Clarence Penn could outplay Dave Lombardo easily. Perhaps the realm of jazz drumming is beyond you. Perhaps the idea of playing melodically and musically is beyond you.
I am a jazzer and a metalhead. I have an appreciation for many styles of music and am above simply saying that one style is horrendous. Everything has it's good and it's bad, some having more good, some having more bad.
Please do not go around insulting musicians of a certain genre like that. I can just as easily say you are a musical ignoramous who takes joy in smashing their set up, rather than playing it because this individual is a metalhead. |

ANTHRAX! good for u mate
Personally i try not to catergorise people. I believe everybody has the right to individuality. As for the limp-wristed jazzer thing try listening to bands like The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion who mix blues/jazz and rock. Just a suggestion, I haven't got anything against you when you say the limp wristed blah blah blah, everyone has opinions _________________ >>>Carpe Diem<<< |

| Slipknot's drummer's name is Joey Jordison, Anthrax good, Jazz good. many jazz drummers could play circles around heavy metal drummers and many heavy metal drummers can play circles around heavy metal drummers. The two styles are very different and can't be compared easily. For example, jazz drummers seem to excel at complicated beats involving the ride and snare, while heavy metal drummers seem to excel in the double bass pedal category. They have their strengths and weaknesses. As for the pop and R N' B comments, i might have to disagree. yes, in the studio drum machines are ued, but if you ever watch live it is a different story. If you have ever seen pink perform live, the drummer for her backing band is very impressive. I don't know if you are familiar with the roots, but the drummer is also a very essential part of that band, an R N' B band. if there are drums, the music is good!!! |

I knew it! U just had to rise to the bait!
Man. some of u need to chill out. There is far too much of a "holier than thou" type mentality amongst the jazz/muso world.
By the way, I DO own Billy Cobham and Tony Williams CD's, because as I am a rock musician who likes everything from Pantera to Glassjaw to Tool to Soundgarden, and I am sick of being told that I should "check out this jazz guy" "check out this fusion band" blah, blah. So I bought these CD's and WAS impressed by SOME of the drumming. But the MUSIC is just plain bollox......I am not ignorant to the jazz/fusion/muso/show-off world. Its just not very good. This is my opinion and I am free to say so. If any one is offended, go put on your Buddy Rich cd's and cry yourself better.... |

"limp-wristed jazzers?" more like "limp wristed Brits" that's more like it. I haven't met a Brit yet that wasn't! BTW Anthrax sucks! The only decent member of the band is Scott Ian. I used to think they were cool...when I was in junior high! |

Whatfever, it's enough that i beat 4 skins had to go provoke other musicians by his biases, please don't attack nationalities or provoke any great flame wars.
A word in general: There is a way to go about things and then there are ways not to.
i beat 4 skins: You were out of line by adding "*.....I know there probably isn't, because I get the impression there are quite a few limp-wristed jazzers and Dave Weckl wannabies out on this forum....
" If you wanted to tell us you were seeing Anthrax, that's great, but don't start tossing in flame bait.
As well, on a side note, perhaps you shouldn't just brush aside some of these drummers. Since all music is ultimately interconnected, these tallented individuals have much to offer.

hey Saurencaerthai i think you should lay off him alittle, dont take it wrong I like you, and you've given me some good advice, but don't take it so personally. I'm a metal drummer, I always make fun of my frineds that play punk or pop or whatever, and belive me theres tons, but I'm not brushing them aside. If I said it takes no skill to play punk thats cool it does donest mean I'm brushing off every punk drummer in the world.
If anything you guys are the ones out of line, not just saurencaerthai but all of you that took it to the next level by saying stupid things like "I used to think they were cool in junior high" look whos brushing people off now you hypricates. My two favorite drummers are denis chambers and joey jordson, Denis Chambers is one of the best funk drummers around he plays with lots of technique, Joey is a metal drummer, he plays with brute speed and power, they're almost oppsites doesnt mean everything else is garbage, I'm just saying I don't care about anything else... and another thing what type of person gets offened by a little comment like that... its people like you that make hard working muscians have to edit their work _________________ ~Fonz~ |

Alright, yes, I can admit I did get a lil caught up in the heat of the moment, and I do apolagise if I overreacted.
However, on the other hand, I will not yield to the point where I will say that many of my words were unprovoked. To toss slurs at general uses of this board such as being "limp wristed" or "wannabes" is asking for trouble. Please do take this into considderation.
As for everyone else, let's just try to put any hard feelings aside and move on, k? |
