I've been thinking fora long time about getting the P2002c or P2002b double pedal, with the interchangeable cams. I've played with them in music stores a couple of times. I would appreciate any opinions from people that have this pedal. And, belt drive, or chain drive? What's the difference? Thanks! |

You mean the Pearl Eliminator?
I will herald my cry from my experiances with that pedal: GET AWAY, STAY AWAY. Lots of adjustable parts means lots of nuts and bolts to hold the adjustments in place, meaning plenty of little essential parts to fall out and get lost. I've already lost one of those little screws which holds the adjustable foot-plate on.
And now, the story of Pearl's WONDERFUL craftmanship:
I dropped $230 on an Eliminator double pedal. Within a month, the hinge bolts were unscrewing and falling out EVERY time I played. Had to warantee that pedal.
In all honestly, I personally think you're better off spending the extra $20 or $30 for an Iron Cobra, or even shelling the bigger bucks for a DW pedal. The beauty of those pedals is that I've found them to be EXTREEMLY smooth and easy to play with plenty of adjustability minus all the pesky extra adjustments.
The main difference between belt and chain is exactly that: one is a metal chain, and the other is a strap made either of kevlar and other fibers or leather. Some tend to like chain over strap just because they feel they can deliver more power with greater ease, but others swear by the strap. I personally find the chain to be much easier to play.

| Thank you, I appreciate your help. I certainly don't want parts falling off the thing, especially for that kind of money! I'll continue looking into other pedals. |

Just to put (another!) spanner in the works, I've had 2 Pearl Eliminator double pedals over the last 2/3 years (first one was stolen). And I can honestly say it's a fantastic pedal. Very tough, very smooth, very fast and the changeable cams is a nice touch.
I agree with Saurencaerthai, lots of fiddly adjustments can sometimes be more trouble than they're worth, but I've never had any problems...
Worth a look / play I think....... |

I really like the feel of these pedals and have been thinking of purchasing one myself (double chain drive). The Iron Cobra's I looked at were actually cheaper than the Pearls I just hate the beater on the Iron Cobra and overall I don't get the same "feel" with them as I notice with the Pearls. (i.e. perhaps the IC's are TOO fast for me?!)
What's the difference between the b's and c's and whatnot? |

Actually, I'm finding that almost all those "pick your own playing surface" beaters are WAY to heavy and feel quite akward. I just recently took a pair of run-of-the-mill felt "marshmellow" beaters, put them on my double, and experianced a VERY noticable increase in feel and sensitivity. I'd recommend anyone who doesn't play a non-normal beater by choice to explore this option, because I think it makes a VERY noticable difference.

Perhaps you tried out the single chain Iron Cobra Jr's, or an older model? All the full-fledged Iron Cobra's I've seen have all been minimum $20 more than the Eliminator.
Also, what do you mean by "What's the difference between the b's and c's and whatnot?" |

I'm a die-hard DW man, and right now is the time to cash on their Delta II and Delta 3 pedals, since the new 9000's are just coming out and pushing the price of the very wide selection of traditional single and double pedals WAY down.
Just a thought.
Hope you find what you need. |
