exactly, i just like single ply heads but many people prefer 2 ply heads. i just enjoy hearing the full tone and resonance from high end sets, like on my maple set. on the other hand, i use pinstripes on my cheap swingstar set. it really depends on wut u like

i generally prefer a more focused sound, but the SC sounds very, very good with the G1s on it.

so i was doing more research this evening (it seems like thats all ive been doing lately) and began pondering the Aquarian Hi-Frequency or Evans Resonant Glass (not hydraulic glass) for resos. they are both thin, light weight heads with very bright opened sustain. these would probably go very nicely with the G1s for a nice opened tone all the way thru the drum. i dont really want to put G1s on both sides of the drums, so im now considering these as replacements for the stock resos. these are kind of both more obscure heads, as more people just go for the standard weight (ambassador, classic clear, genera) clear heads and overlook this type. any thoughts?

Yeah, you're going to get a very open, resonant sound from that combination of heads. It's similar to using a Diplomat bottom/Ambassador top combination. Good sustain, bright, open tone.

FWIW, I use a Hi Frequency reso on my 10" tom. I find that smaller drums, since there is less drum shell material to vibrate, are less resonant. So I bump up the 10's resonance with a thinner reso head.
Here's what I use: (all batters coated, all resos clear) 10 - Studio X over Hi Frequency, 12 & 14 - Studio X over Classic Clear, 16 - Response 2 over Classic Clear. Those head combos seem to even out the resonance all around the kit. Might be something to consider.

I'm using the evans reso glass. It's a good head and (of course depending on the top head) gives a nice open, bright sound.
