does anyone here use a drop clutch like this one when playing double bass, or just because? it seems like a good idea, so you dont have to have a second pair of hats to play while double bassing. any bad experiences?

really... well, do the cymbals just fall down and sit there pretty much all the way closed, as they would if you didnt tighten a standard clutch, or does it tighten them so it sounds like youre holding the pedal down?

I use DW’s version on my cable-remote hats. Releasing the clutch only allows the top cymbal lay on top of the bottom. The amount of pressure between them is equal to the weight of the top cymbal and the angle of the stand/rod combined. To say, they’re together, but just sitting there. You’ll get a pretty “swishy” sound when you play ‘em.

Lots of notes don’t really work well since the “wash” covers up the articulations. Give ‘em quarters or med to slow eighths and they’ll speak clearly enough. I’ve put the bottom hat (traditionally the heavier of the two) on top before, but I don’t prefer that sound.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the input... so basically the only way to get a really closed hat is to buy an extra set of hats and mount it on one of those attachment arms?

i've used it. it was nice but took too much lengh of the hihat rod. the black plastic thing fell off after 2 weeks. and it loves getting stains, haha.
the pearl dlcluch is an opinion, but THE BEST is the DW clutch. you see it fixed on lars ulrchs hihat greetinx
