Okay, I play just casuals, no touring. So between the following which do you suggest?
Pearl H820W Hi-Hat Stand
or
DW 5500TD Delta II Hi-Hat Stand
Also: what's everyone's opinion on this kick pedal?
Pearl P-2000B Belt-Drive PowerShifter Eliminator Bass Pedal
Thanks,
Steve |

dont know about the hats, but the Powershifter is very nice. ive had it for almost 2 years, and its held up well. if youre moving up to it from a crappy stock pedal, then it will feel very different, possibly hard to get used to as the springs make the beater wobble if you dont control it after you hit it. nice and smooth, strong and responsive. id say its comparable to the Tama Iron Cobras, but i may stand corrected. it has 4 interchangeable cams, each adding a different dynamic and feel to the pedal. the standard black cam has a straight attack, and doesnt really add any speed or power as you swing. the white on is the "radical" version of the black, and increases beater speed and power as it hits the head. red is more sensitive, yet less powerful, and blue is even more so. youll probably end up changing thru each of them several times at some point, and changing around other settings for a while in order to find exactly what you want. the footboard height it adjustable, and has rubber grips on it than can be mounted on the top or bottom half of the pedal. very heavily built, and strong. the bass drum clamp is tightened from the side with a built in wing nut. beater angle can be easily adjusted with the turn of your key, as can spring tension. i personally own the chain drive, but ive heard the belt is pretty much the same. if your belt rips (which it wont.) then you can buy replacements for like $15. i prefer this over the tamas because youre not stuck into one setting (powerglide, flexiglide, rolling glide) and you can easily, and radically change the feel by snapping on a new cam. _________________

i also have the chain drive version. personnally, i dont really like the beaters themselves, and might replace them. but other than that i love them. fast n responsive, just the way i like it. _________________ Help, Friends! the Hamster tricked me! |

they arent great... i personally like the DW beaters, as they are designed only to be hit on the one side, and therefore dont try to accomodate everyone with only a decent beater. its not like its not playable, but youll never end up changing the side of the beater (there are 4) that you use. all of them have a curve that doesnt quite feel natural when it hits... and i dont like the hard plastic ends. dont get me wrong, its a great pedal, and a mediocre beater shouldnt stop your from buying it. its still very much playable, and you may not even have a problem with it. _________________

as for the hihat, if i were you id save up some extra $$$ and get the pearl eliminator hihat! i have that too, its sweet. the pedal is the same as the kick pedal. its got good grip, which i personnally like.also, the clamp for the top hat is nice. the rubber dampenners dont make a big difference, but its got a nice screw so you can make your top hat as rigid as a board or loose as a crash. _________________ Help, Friends! the Hamster tricked me! |

does it really affect that much on a hihat stand? _________________

I bought a pearl eliminator hi-hat pedal yesterday, and mine came with all 4 of the cams you get with the normal single/double bass drum pedal. (dunno if thats a new upgrade...heard there have been a few additions/modifications since it came out). With the hi-hat pedal its more about the responsiveness (is that a word? lol) thats the cams give rather than acceleration, speed or power. The black cam gives you a normal feel, the white one takes more 'umph' to get it down, while the blue one seems to be very close to the black, as u hardly notice an acceleration lol. My fav however is the red cam, as it creates the lightest, quickest and most accurate reponse i've ever felt on a hi-hat stand - a small tap can produce big movement, and it also gives the most powerful 'chick' out of all the cams when used like a normal pedal. I managed to get mine for £99, which is about er...$140? (not to sure) but thats was a real bargain!
Anywho, see you all around! _________________ Pacific CX drums...A Zildjian Cymbals...Remo Emperor Heads...Vic Firth Sticks... |

The more I hear, the more I lean toward getting the Pearl stand and pedal.
Thanks for the info everyone. It really helps a lot! |
