peaking of mapex, I was in my local drum store yesterday and they had 2 mapex orion 6pc kits that are brand new of a discontinued model for $999.00 !!! I was shocked ! all maple drums with fade finishes. behind the orions were some pro m series and those were 879.00
I almost bought them and im still considering it for that low of a price, they retail for like 3k. the cool set was blue onyx fade with 18x22,8x8,8x10,9x12,14x14 w/legs 14x5 snare it sounded as good as the starclassic maples if anyone is interested in this kit call my bud Kevin, He owns the drum center of lexington, in lexington KY (859)-276-1827
he's a really cool guy and a hell of a jazz teacher he can also get you zildjian and sabian cymbals for 50% off retail. I picked up a K heavy ride in there yesterday brand new for $212.00 best ride cymbal i have ever heard!! Just some info in case anyone is interested.

well, the "retail" price is pretty much a joke, and no retailer should ever try to charge anything close to it.
a local music shop of mine had this big radio ad campaign for this one day sale they were having... buy one, get one free on EVERYTHING. so i go down there, and pick up a couple of cymbals. i was gonna pay like $200 for hihats, and get a free crash. but then i goto check out, and the cashier says "that will be $498. " i thought she accidentally charged me for both, but apparently they hadnt really mentioned that they were charging retail on everything, just for that day. so, in all i would have saved $15 by buying the one cymbal at retail price, which i didnt because they were douches. _________________

That sounds like a remarkable deal to me. $999 for a 6-piece Orion... holy crap. Is it birdseye maple, by any chance? |

| Nice comparison, giloun. You've certainly done your homework. From the specs alone, yes, the Mapex seems to be the way to go, without question. Rockstars are certainly respectable drums, though. If possible, sit down, play both sets, check out the hardware, and make your decision. If I were to order blindly, however, I would be getting the Mapex. Just my opinion. |
