the dip is a rubbery substance that gives you a better grip on the stick, not just paint. _________________

So would you recommend them or do you have a better preference? _________________ www.tattoodles.com

I prefer other sticks as the Dip peels off rather easily. I use (currently) Ahead Jordison Sticks. But those are pricey. Try a 5A or 5B stick. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/spironoise |

yah... i personally dont really care for em. sure, they have grip on em, but they just feel different than a regular stick to me. im just used to playing with regular ol' wood sticks, so thats just what im used to. _________________

I have a pair of 7A Dip Sticks. What happened is that my fellow drummers thought'd it be cool to peel of the dip Which can also happen from other things. To say the least I was pissed. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/spironoise |

I tried the Zildjian but their stick selection doesn't include what I like to use. Instead I tried some of this stuff:
It works great. You can even add a little grit to the mixture if you want. I've tried it and I don't like it, but the dip works great for me and I can customize things as I see fit (add other stuff like string or tape before dipping). The good thing is I can use the sticks that I want. Give it a try on a pair of your Vic Firth's. _________________ Great site

Heh. Me too. 5-B's that broke in under five on an outdoor gig. Good thing they were a gift! _________________ Great site

I guess you could say I like them, but imo, they're not worth it. They are way expensive and the nylon tips on mine popped off way before thay should have. |

yeah same here. Did you get them in a 6 pack? It had one set of dips, then 5 normal _________________ Yamaha SCA

No, the one pair was given to me by a student. They knew about the upcoming outdoor gig and my intentions with the Plasti Dip stuff. I tried both and my Vaters felt better, sounded better and lasted longer... much longer. The only reason I'd use Zildjian sticks is if I was endorsed by 'em. ...even then I'd have to think about it! Their cymbals I like, but their sticks I don't. _________________ Great site

| Erm, i'm not sure if it's just me, i have a pair of trilok gurtu signature sticks, but i find that the dip makes my hands sweat more. So it actually feels more uncomfortable. But maybe it's just me. |

I love the weight/length of the 5A dips, but lemme say the grip stuff sucks.
1) It kills the sound of a proper cross-stick (i.e., you turn the stick around, butt over the edge, not the tip
2) Cross-sticks wear a hole in the grippy stuff, causing it too peel away.
3) The grippy stuff causes bad blisters
I guess if you play heavy music and wear gloves, they would be the ultimate in grippy sticks.
Also they last longer than my Pro-mark and Vic Firth 5a's (hickory), as the shoulder of the stick doesn't whittle away as fast. _________________ http://homepage.mac.com/strib/drums/drum1.jpg |
