sofar, I have never broken a stick. I've been playing with my sticks on a real kit every week for about a couple of months (before that I had an electronic kit, and your sticks dont break on those). I use a pair of Pro-mark 2b's btw.

Actually bust a tip off or break it in half? Never. I've cracked them, but never a brand new stick. I tend to whittle away my sticks on the hats until the tip is ready to fall off.

Cracked one in the middle once, but it must've been a bad piece of wood because I've never done it since.

I can only think of one time I actually snapped a stick. I usually replace them before they break when the tips get all chipped up or the shoulder starts to split.

I've never brokena stick...
I've worn down tips a lot and I've whittled em down a bunch but I've never snaped one. I switch sticks a lot and that might be why. Also, I've dropped sticks on the tips on concrete or asphalt and theat is a defenite no no.

i think ive broken 2 sticks in the past eight years. i broke one pair probably the second time i used them... they split down the middle after a rimshot, for whatever reason. the other stick broke because id been using the same pair for 4 months, and was too lazy to go and buy some new ones until one of the sticks just broke.

i have a whole pile of used up sticks that produce clouds of sawdust when you play with them because theyre so worn down on the shoulder. there are some that no longer have tips because they just got worn off. as far as i see it, if youre breaking sticks then youre either doing something stupid with them or just not replacing them once their lifespan is effectively over. you may get a bad draw every once in a very long while and break an almost-new pair of sticks, but its not something that should happen with any sort of frequency.

how long do you do with a pair of sticks? as for me, sofar I have never had to change my sticks (there are some small dents, but nothing bad).

If you have decent technique you shouldn't be breaking sticks or cymbals. The tips have started to fall off, but never broken sticks!!

When I started, I used to break my sticks every two weeks or so.
But they last longer when your technique improves. Right now, I replace them every 4 months or so. Before they break, when they are worn out.

When I ride the bell of my ride Some sticks split.
When I play numorous rim shots I have broke sticks in two.
I have also broke ahead sticks.

I disagree with the Pleasure-Paulie comment above.

I actually break sticks about once a month. But there is a reason. I'm a heavy hitter and almost every snare hit is a rimshot.

Only chipping mines when playing 8th note on open hi-hat - I'm not a very hard hitter though.

By the way I had purchase a dozen pairs of 7a Trakk drumstick (nylon tip) for 12.00$ canadian dollar - for one buck a pair, they are pretty good for jammin and playing real heavy - you dont mind about the stick, you can even trow it to garbage after jammin Laughing
