Djembe has been on my long list of percussion instruments I wish to learn, but sadly, I have yet to pick it up.
(Btw, if you want to post rhythms, tutorials, and such for the instrument, feel free to do so!) |

Thats great that you want to learn, but I dont know if Im exactly qualified to teach.
If you could find some one in your area to get you started, good luck to you.
The Djembe is really fun and adds a whole new depth and style to whatever your playing to.
P.S. I have been playing djembe at my church(s) for like 4 years, and it has been very fun. |

| Second way, although I've heard some people prounounce the "e" with more of an "i" sound. |

I started playing the djembe in college (6 years ago). My roommate and I led worship for the school's FCA and hand drums are so much easier to carry around. Plus the drum has several notes in one so that's nice as well. I have two djembes. The first was a gift that was bought in a homes goods store (nice sound) and the second was bought online. I enjoy playing both drums. They add a lot when you are playing with acoustic guitars.
I have never taken a lesson. I have a collection of rythyms I use that I have drawn from my drum set and other hand drum knowledge.
I received a talking drum this past Christmas and working learning that drum. |

I really like jamming on doumbeks, i used to jam with a couple acoustic guitar players, although it may sound typical it actually wasnt, we covered some pretty cool songs, "in memory of elizabeth reed" "chameleon" and for the novelty "nothing but a g thing", that was one of my coolest bands i was in _________________ Capitalism is where man exploits man, Communism is the other way around. |

With a username like DjembeDog, you bet. Heck, I even named my German Shepherd Djembe! Now I guess it ridiculously obvious about the username.
no more secrets... *sigh* |

Once you play one, you can't help but to fall in love with it. So far I've only played my friend's but I plan on getting one soon.
Has anyone seen the documentary movie about the djembefola (that's what they call a djembe player) in africa (don't remember the country)? It's pretty cool. They take it very seriously. Master djembe players are "rock stars" over there. It's part of their everyday life, too. They work the fields to the beat of one or more djembes. They have university dedicated to djembe craft. This cat went on to play for the "national orchestra" and then came back to his hometown years later and was treated like royalty.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone play a hand drum like this guy.
I've seen the show a couple times. It plays on WorldLink?? tv on DirectTV satellite. _________________ What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? | Ok I am a total newbie to drumming, about 3 monthes ago I bought a Doubek from Remo*10in* and was hooked, (I know its a sythetic drum but it suits what I do well). When I bought my doumbek I also saw the 16 in Djembe' so bitten by the bug, I ended up getting the dembe' well about an hr ago..... any one know of wny sites with basic djembe' tech. I have already figured out it is not the same as playing a doumbek so just looking for some good tips about the different methods of hitting the drum to achive tones.... |

| I started djembe about 3 yrs ago and have a Kambala djembe from Ivory Coast. I'm the drummer and percussionist in the church. I don't know many traditional African rhythms. I improvise using drumset concept and just jam with the band. |
